MY REHAB AT SPAULDING IN SANDWICH, MA (JUNE 12 – JUNE 24)

At Spaulding, we arrived late in the day. My “new” room was 211 B. Becky was able to see me for about an hour.

The first day of Saturday was my busy. The schedule started at 7:30 AM to get me ready for the day. All my clothes were Penn State t-shirts and shorts, so I was ready for my fans. For the time spent with them every day. The therapy I worked with areas of Occupation, Speech, and Physical Therapists to make me well.

My Speech therapist, Susan C, was very interesting in talking to me about language. She talked about Aphasia. I could not understand many questions, and I couldn’t answer my words. I asked Susan how my stroke and Aphasia were happening with me. She told me about how the brain was worked on the left side of speaking, reading, writing, and listening. The brain areas on the right side seemed to be in pretty good shape. She said the middle of the brain seems to be where the area for me to work on.

These first days were scary for me. There were many things I could not find the word. She explained that if I work, I will get many words back. It was not easy in the next few weeks.
